Why we chose to be a social enterprise

Team — social enterprise

Move Care started from a simple question: can everyday transport do more than move people from one place to another? Our answer is a social enterprise — and here's why.

It all started with a fleet

We operate a fleet authorized by the Romanian Road Authority, working daily in Cluj-Napoca through the Bolt and Uber platforms. We know the city, its routes and its rhythm. But alongside our regular commercial rides, we noticed something that's hard to see from behind a ride-sharing app.

There are people for whom a simple trip is a real problem: elderly people without a car, chronic patients who need repeated treatments, people with disabilities for whom public transport isn't always accessible. For them, a missed ride doesn't just mean a delay — it can mean a missed medical appointment.

Why not just a transport company

We could have stayed a transport company like any other. But we realized we already had the infrastructure, the drivers and the know-how to solve a concrete social problem. Staying passive would have been a missed opportunity.

So we chose the social enterprise model: a business that runs on market principles, but dedicates part of its resources to a clear social mission. We don't rely on classic donations to survive — we generate revenue and put part of it in the service of the community.

We believe a business can be, at the same time, sustainable and deeply human.

The mechanics of solidarity

Here's the idea that defines us: part of the revenue from commercial rides funds social rides, free or subsidized, for vulnerable people.

Social rides aren't directly accessible to the general public, but only through verified partners — NGOs, clinics and institutions that can correctly assess who really needs help. The cost of such a ride is split: we cover half, from supporters' advance payments and from revenue, and the other half goes to the partner organization. The beneficiary pays nothing in the end.

What's next

We're just starting out, but the direction is clear. We're aiming for thousands of social rides in the first year, an increasingly eco-friendly fleet and, in the medium term, vehicles adapted for people with locomotor disabilities — a service the city is currently missing.

Move Care is, at its core, proof that mobility can be an act of solidarity. And that has been our choice from the very beginning.

Support our mission

With 40 lei, someone reaches treatment today. Give a ride to a vulnerable person.
